GWB Charities - Earn Some Prestige While Giving

Games Without Boarders is excited to sponsor charity events to benefit good causes across the globe. There are many options to support a local charity, such as a food bank or shelter, thus strengthening the community where they live building a sense of community and building friendships. Members are encouraged to be respectful of others, to participate responsibly and safely at all events, and to support each other as we grow together and explore our creative interests.

Most charity drives are local and result in awards of General prestige awarded by a DC or CC.
The regional or national coordinators may sponsor a regional or national drive though regional or national prestige awarded as a result must be granted by the RC or NC respectively.

Some ideas include:

• Donating blood as part of a GWB blood drive (incl. whole blood and partial blood donations).

• Transportation for blood drive - Transporting two or more members who donate blood. (This may not be received in the same month as a donation of blood).

• Donating items as part of a GWB charity drive.

• Volunteer time as part of a GWB charity drive.

• Labor donated to charities as part of an organized GWB charity event or drive (soup kitchens, homeless shelters, park cleanups, local libraries and other charitable institutions).

• Organizing a blood drive, charity drive, volunteer event or charitable fund raiser.

• Donating needed materials to the GWB.

Please remember that you must provide a receipt or documentation of the charity provided/ completed/ donated. Documentation must be provided to earn prestige.

We will highlight 3 specific charities or methods of contribution every 3 months. The other options are viable options for a percentage of prestige year round. The quarterly highlighted charities will be listed here for quick reference.

Volunteer at a local Pet Shelter.
Donate perishable food to a local shelter.
Donate to a Homeless Shelter.

Donate to the Salvation Army
Donate blood (whole or partial)
Donate to American Cancer Society (division of your choice)

Habitat for Humanity, Volunteer Reading and Literacy programs, and Volunteer tutoring (for kids or disabled adults) Helping out at a shelter for women, kids, Vets, etc., Giving time or items to Goodwill or other Charitable places (The Way, Downtown Rescue Mission, Salvation Army), Doing 'Project Green Earth' or 'Project Cleanup' To help at-risk areas to be better for the community are all examples as well. The big thing for Prestige is to be doing something that takes at least a modicum of effort on your part. Occasionally (like natural disasters) Regional/National will allow monetary donations when you cant be physically present to help. Other than these, Monetary gifts have (at least in the past) counted for much less as it's seen as 'buying prestige'.

So get out there and make Huntsville awesome! Get Tasty Prestige!

Are there any Charity Drives for October/November?

As a matter of fact, there is. This was sent on December 3rd.

It's cold out there (except for those few of you in Australia, India, and the Middle East). And it's getting colder. There is no shortage of people in need of something warm to wear. And it's long since time that we remember the charity aspect of this club.

For the months of December, January and February, GWB will be running a Winter Warm-Up Drive. Items should be contributed to local clothing banks and the like. Domains may elect to handle the logistics in the way that make the most sense for the domain, but at the least you need to provide some form of documentation to your Domain Coordinator for what you've donated.

Donations are worth the following:

Gloves, Mittens, Scarves, Thermal Wear, or Hats: 5 National Prestige
Boots, Blankets, or Winter Coats: 10 National Prestige

As with any charity, the monthly cap is 30 National Prestige.

We are running this drive locally now, and we plan on getting it more organized at our upcoming domain meeting. At the moment we have had a person donate scarfs for December.

Nice to know that our NST patrols our forums

Well, your NST is finally starting to patrol the forum, after realising that way, way, way too many people aren't on the gwb-general list and thus don't see the assorted important posts there.

Believe me, I've poked people about getting on that list a ton of times.

January 2014 Domain Charity Drive

Pet Care

Donate items to no kill shelters like the humane society which have thrift stores, or donate food/supplies to a local no kill shelter. You may also volunteer your time at a shelter as well.

You can either bring your donations to the game and we will take your donations as an organizational donation, or you can bring a dated receipt from the shelter with a list of items that you donated in the name of Shadow Play International/GWB. If you volunteered your time, please bring a document from the organization you volunteered at with a listing of the duties you performed and the amount of time spent volunteering.

Bring proof of blood donated in the Month of March and receive 30G.
