Sample of a Downtime report Empty
PostSubject: Sample of a Downtime report   Sample of a Downtime report EmptyMon Apr 29, 2013 4:47 pm

This is the form that I am used to filling out for a Downtime action. I thought I would post it up here just in case some of you might want to take a look at it, get some ideas for how you might want to format your downtimes, etc.

There is nothing wrong with simply posting what you're planning on doing in the downtime folder in any way you see fit, just make sure that VST is clear on what you are attempting to do and list any relevant skills, attributes, or dice pools for the action.

If any of you are interested in this form and would like to see an example of how one is filled out, I can send you a copy of one of my old downtimes as an example. You can be as detailed and tedious or lax as you want with your downtimes. Smile

Remove the instructions (and the brackets) and enter the appropriate data.  Delete any sections that are not appropriate to your character.  For example, if your Resolve is 3, you should delete the lines for Action #4 and Action #5 or if you character does not have the Mentor Merit, then you should delete the Mentor Actions line, if you don’t have allies, or contacts delete those fields as well. Sample of a Downtime report Empty
PostSubject: Re: Sample of a Downtime report   Sample of a Downtime report EmptyThu May 02, 2013 10:37 am

Since we don't use influences (Those are contacts or allies) that part isn't needed here, And Resources (or Luxury) Work on a dot scale instead of hard cash (aka, you want to buy a car that armory says is 3 dots. It means as long as you have 3 dots of Resources you can have it).

Other than those two (and you only need to include contact info the first time and if it changes) This is a great form very similar to those I've used in the past. Thanks Sarah!

Sample of a Downtime report Empty
PostSubject: Confused   Sample of a Downtime report EmptyFri May 03, 2013 9:57 am

Raven, I am confused. Since dots of resources are not linear, they are exponential, why would dots work? For instance if you have 5 dots of resources, does that mean you can only buy 5 dots worth of equipment? (notice 4 dots resources is 10,000 a month expendable, 5 dots is 50,000, so thats not 1 dot more, thats 5x more)

could you clear this up for me?

I also am confused about the Resources...
If you have 5 dots of resources, you can just buy anything you want?

PostSubject: Re: Sample of a Downtime report   Sample of a Downtime report EmptyFri May 03, 2013 1:49 pm

Resources work exactly as it reads in the main WoD book (blue book). It's essentially a bank account of spendable money. If you buy a car worth 25,000 dollars at Resources 5, your about broke till the first of the month unless you use an action to liquidate property. If you make a habit of liquidation though, you can lose dots in resources(as you don't have the property/accounts/etc to back up the level anymore).

Resources(• to •••••)WoD p115
This Merit measures your character’s material resources, both possessions and wealth. All characters are assumed to have a job or a source of income (trust fund, parents) that is sufficient to cover their basic needs: food, shelter and transportation. Dots in this Merit represent disposable income - wealth and assets that can be liquidated for more money in case of emergency. The number of dots indicates your character’s general level of wealth. One dot suggests low disposable income: $500 a month and approximately $1,000 worth of assets. Two dots suggest moderate disposable income: $1,000 a month and approximately $5000 worth of assets. Three dots suggest significant disposable income: $2000 a month and maybe $10,000 worth of assets. Four dots suggest substantial disposable income: $10,000 a month and $500,000 worth of assets. Five dots suggest significant wealth: $50,000 a month and as much as $5,000,000 worth of assets.
Resources can be used to determine if your character can reasonably afford a purchase or expenditure. Equipment, weapons and items throughout these rules are assigned costs in dots. The Storyteller can assign cost dots to other items during play based on what’s here. If your character has the same or more dots in Resources, he can afford the item on his disposable income. That doesn’t mean he has a blank check with which to buy everything he sees. He might be able to afford one or two items with a cost equal to his Resources dots in a single month. Items with lower costs can be acquired more often. The Storyteller has final say on what’s too much or what’s too often.

I see you removed the fields for Influences and Resources from the downtime form entirely.... Please leave a field for Resource expenditures. It doesn't use the traits system from before, but people still need a place to track the stuff they buy.

Like, if they need to prove at game that they just bought some very specific tool for an action that seems too spontaneous for forethought to be believeable. Not that THAT comes up often. =P

So you still have half your money?

Also, do you keep track of what you dont spend? Or is it a use it or lose it type thing? Like if you have 5 dots you have 50K, but if you spend only 20K that month, do you keep track of the balances as they build up, or do you just go back up to 50 next month and too bad about the other 30 you had?

Do keep track of what you spend, if you need to do an action that requires more than you have in cash, You'll need to liquidate assets. Liquidating assets repeatedly can cause you to loose dots in resources (since you don't have the assets to give you the cash anymore).

I've always seen it played as a use it or lose it, but I cant find anything on that. I'll send it up the ST chain and get back to you guys.

A sample mage would be great. I'm sure we could just modify the vampire one and get it to work.

I thought I'd try to create a Mage downtime document for us to use.  it goes without saying that the STs can add, modify, clarify, or delete any of this stuff if they feel they need to.

Anything referring to influences can be removed.

Also there should be a section for gaining mana. And a section for the free pie game cast spells (resolve times gnosis successes free) also, because we get these free successes, we have to check if using resolve actions can be used for extended casting.

Those are my two cents

Forgot the mana part.  The one I wrote up for myself contains the mana information.  I will add that.

Why would things relating to influences be removed.  They are an integral part of the Spirit rules.

Also, I would think that any pre-game mana expenditures would be something that you would just let the ST know at the beginning of the game. There isn't really a reason for listing it in DT.

You may be right, the text included is rather strangely worded. Maybe I should do a rewrite of that section. I'll need to talk to Brandy about it.
What I would like to see is a section of the forums with DST sanctioned downtime templates from all the genre's we play. Hopefully with Sarah's template and my template we can move in that direction.
